It’s a beautiful sunny day and I’m inside dedicated to finishing my pricing and photographing Hot Wheels. 4 hours yesterday and 2 so far today. I might be finished after 3 more. Ugh.
What’s up with you? Keeping well?

Doing well, thanks. Watching the F1 right now. Interesting race. The last 15 laps were kind of like bumper cars. I played my first gig since March yesterday, performing patriotic music at a retirement home. It felt good to get back in the saddle. Today is a chill day, staying cool inside and maybe dong some cleaning. All of the quarantine projects we planned to do have gone pretty much undone, so we’re doing them now.

Rain. Lots of rain. All plans for finishing the cabinets were halted by the rain.

I miss watching F1. Maybe I’ll poke around this year and get re familiarized so I can be up to speed for next year.

Send some our way. Hot and dry here.

I’ve been following it since the mid-90s, but not particularly hard core. I can’t name all the drivers or all the teams, I just dig the technology and the racing. ESPN has been carrying the Sky Sport coverage, and it’s fantastic. The best part? No commercials. And you can watch the race replays on the ESPN website whenever you want.

Like you it was the 90's for me. I’ll bet my bottom dollar I can’t access ESPN due to region. And that’s why I’ve fallen out of the loop. Once I said goodbye to cable TV it became just enough of a pain in the ass.

We’ve got access through a combined ESPN/Disney+/Hulu subscription.

I just fired up my Mac in ages and am having a hard time understanding it. I used to be a die-hard Mac user but I’m feeling like a total newbie right now. An external disk shows less than 6GB of 750 GB available, but the folders inside the drive total up to less than 400 GB - what’s using the other 350 GB? When I get info it just says that there’s files in there - no breakdown by type like I’d expect. And it keeps running out of memory with just a handful of apps open; the machine has 16GB, so how can three or four apps make it run out? Right now I’m running Chrome with 6 tabs open, as well as Activity Monitor, and it says that 15.21 GB of 16 GB is being used. Huh? And what is ‘App Memory’ and why is it over 13 GB? And there are long pauses when typing and apps are not responding. I’m so lost right now and tempted just to shut this thing down and get back to it later.
On the bright side I found Bundaberg Ginger Beer on sale over at Costco. After months of drinking pretty much just water it’s nice to have a little sugar even if it’s the last thing I need. Did some fridge cleanup and made up some Mac and Cheese(burger), doused in Cholula. Between this and the ginger beer I’m going to have to make sure to take my antacid...

I wish I knew what to tell you on the Mac issues. My guess is that your problem is a lack of overhead room on the HD. I’d be on the Google trying to figure it out.

Pretty decent. I put the engine cover back on my wife's car as a sign of faith that I won't be needing to take it off again for a while. Got no sleep because people were lighting fireworks until at 4am but it what it is.

The barrages here ended just after midnight. But it was also one of the loudest nights in recent memory.

It's never been this bad in the 9 years I've lived in this town. They shut down the show that the city puts on, so people took the law into their own hands as it were. I will be praying the show is back next year because this was some bullshit lol

I think that’s the same thing that happened here. The fireworks sellers must have had a very good year. Folks also have a lot of steam to blow off.

I am doing ok, but would be happier if I had an Espada in my driveway. Fireworks were crazy here too, but they always kind of are. When I was a kid a lot bed the holiday and it was mostly snap crackle and pop. Now it is mostly boom, and if the wind is blowing also a thick cloud of smoke. I have heard some people spend over a grand on fireworks. That is a lot of lost potential for beer, pizza, and tires.

It’s my birthday, and our neighbors bought a bunch of amazing food that I got to cook.

Thanks! As far as these things go, it wasn’t bad. Wonderful friends, wonderful neighbors. Amazing food. I had a lot of fun cooking. Everyone’s smart, isolated, and taking care not just of themselves, but those around them, and that’s the best thing we can all do.
Though I do wish someone had taken any pics of either the carrots, mushrooms, salsa, shrimp, tenderloin, or scallops that I made today, because that was some pretty good stuff.

Not sure which Chrome, but on some of the Mac releases it was an absolute memory glutton...

Good times. I played a gig on Saturday morning at a retirement home. Four good musician friends, we played outside in a courtyard, stayed clear of any residents. As safe as it could be, I suppose, and it was so much fun getting back to playing music. It was my first gig since mid-March. My wife is WFH, and she’s taking tomorrow off, so I think we’re going to take a drive out Frede ricksburg way to look for some fresh local produce and just get out for a while. I’m jonesing for a long road trip. I’m ready to spend two weeks on the road and put about 3,000 miles on the van. That’s my idea of a vacation.

I graduated, so that’s cool.
Yep, graduated into a world where we have six-foot personal spaces, Kanye is running for president, opinions are practically outlawed, murder hornets are a thing, some dude killed a couple tigers and did some other stuff and the world became obsessed with it presumably because we’re bored out of our minds living in an introvert’s paradise, the government kinda confirmed UFOs and no one noticed because COVID and hornets, a sort of second civil war has erupted because a bunch of police officers are jerks, some guy tried to crash a train into a medical boat because of a conspiracy theory but didn’t quite make it, and THE HUMMER IS COMING BACK AT SOME POINT AND WILL HAVE A THOUSAND HORSEPOWERS AND 11,500 TORQUES AND DO ZERO TO SIXTY IN THREE SECONDS RIGHT THROUGH YOUR HOUSE AND YOUR NEIGHBORS HOUSE PLUS YOUR LOVED ONES AND THE FAMILY DOG, plus half a dozen other things I’ve probably forgotten about, and a homicidal partridge in a pear tree of doom.

That’s a pretty good summary, actually. The world is a very interesting place right now to be sure. I’m hoping that the pendulum will swing the other way soon.
Congratulations on the diploma.

I sure hope my College years see the world calm down a bit. At least I know someday I’ll have some epic “back in my day” old man stories ;)

Even without Chrome running most of the memory was allocated as ‘app memory’. I need to spend a bit more time figuring out what’s going on, but I’ve got more pressing issues right now. The main thing that I was trying to do was to verify that the external disc was indeed formatted for Mac; I really wish Windows would say something to let me know that when I plug it into a Windows system, but even though they’ve gotten better some old MS behaviours remain to annoy.
